Don't just do it, do it well

My dad always said: if you’re going to do something, do it right the first time.

Whether through genes or by example, my dad passed on to me his impeccable work ethic – and ethics over all really. He taught us that if you said you were going to do something, you best do it.

But he also taught us that any task or project that you’ve committed to should not be done half-heartedly. He was not the phone-it-in type. If you were going to do something, give it your best shot off the bat.

I saw a great quote recently from that reminded me of my dad: “If you don’t have time to do it right, when will you have time to do it over?

The quote is from John Wooden, an American basketball player and coach who won ten National Collegiate Athletic Association national championships over 12 years.

Now, I’m not a sports fan – nor was my dad – but the results speak for themselves.

So, if you say you are going to do something, do it. And if you are going to do something, do it to the very best of your ability!
